Most beginner blackjack players are too risky. They won’t stop asking for cards unless they get to 20 or 21. But really, the key for a beginner blackjack player is to learn how to play conservatively.

Playing Smart Blackjack Requires Discipline
October 8th, 2008 — blackjack tips
One of the things about blackjack and gambling in general is its easy to play stupid. Especially if you have had a hot hand recently. The key thing is to ignore whatever streak you are on and play smart. Don’t push your luck just because you have won a bunch of hands in a row. Stick to playing smart, conservative yet successful hands rather than betting a larger amount all at once.
If you walk into the casino planning to play with 1000 dollars dont drop it all at once but spread it out with 25 dollar hands over the course of the day. This insulates you from losing patterns and getting on a negative dumb streak and helps guard you from heavy losses.
Remember gambling is about fun, and strategy. No need to go being stupid and getting hurt.

How often will the dealer bust
July 25th, 2008 — blackjack tips
This question comes up a lot. How often does the dealer bust…
The Casino City Times answers it about as well as I have ever heard.
Say you’re sitting at the blackjack table and are dealt an 11 as your starting hand. The dealer has a wimpy-looking 5 up. The obviously correct play is to double down. So you put another chip next to your original bet and take your one card for a double bet. Woops – you catch an Ace to finish your hand with 12.
“That’s okay – that’s okay”, the fella’ next to you consoles. “The dealer’s got a 5 up. She’s gonna’ bust – no problem”, he continues. The dealer then turns up a 4 in the hole and quickly pops a 10 to make 19. So much for your “no problem” hand.
When the dealer has a 5 up, she will bust:
1. 3 times out of 7
2. 4 times out of 7
3. 5 times out of 7
4. 6 times out of 7
Overall, the dealer will bust:
1. 1 time out of 7
2. 2 times out of 7
3. 3 times out of 7
4. 4 times out of 7
The correct answers are 1 and 2, respectively.

I´ve started playing more and more blackjack online and one of the places I´ve grown fond is Hit or Stand.
Hit or Stand is a free online blackjack game and trainer that teaches you blackjack strategy while you play. The goal of the game is to make a high percentage of correct moves, not to earn money.
Although some folks do earn money at blackjack it´s not the easiest thing in the world to do and most winners are professional card counters.
Outsmarting casinos with card counting
July 23rd, 2008 — blackjack casinos, blackjack tips
I am truly not a fan of card counting, but this video gives you some advice on card counting and how to outsmart casinos. I prefer to go with my strategy of mediocrity and good luck rather than any one methodology since Ive noticed the best methodology to winning at gambling is to put your money in an IRA and avoid high gas bills by driving to casinos. But that would just defeat the whole thrill of gambling which is why most of us are here anywho.

Playing Blackjack Isnt Easy
July 18th, 2008 — blackjack tips
Over on Fartstock they have an article on why Blackjack is easy.
Despite what most beginners think, your goal isn’t to get as close as you can to 21. Your goal is simply to have a higher total than the dealer without “busting,” or going over 21.
The problem with blackjack is most strive to hit 21 when the real goal should be to outsmart the dealer. The problem with that is the dealer is getting payed to play full time and you my friend are just an amateur.
